A jackal chews on his prey, the head of a Thomson’s gazelle, which he then carries around very photogenic. Unfortunately, we finally need to leave, the clock is ticking. A quick breakfast at the Mara River and we take some last pictures of the escarpment, then we jet off towards Uganda.
At the gate, a ranger explains to us the “shortest” way onto the escarpment, a mud track of 30 km. Deepwater puddles on the road make the proceeding very slow. Only from Kilgoris onwards, the road is tarred. In Kisumu, we see Lake Victoria for the first time, but, we don’t find any campsite. We book a room at the Macedonia Resort Club. This evening, we eat out at Kiboko Resort and sit at the shores of Lake Victoria, enjoying Beef Schnitzel and Chicken Cordon Bleu. We don’t spot any hippo’s, neither here nor at the Hippo Point but heck, we’ve already seen too many hippos. Tomorrow we will leave Kenya.
